growing up

so I know I haven't posted anything in a while about zsolt's development. i'd like to relate this to a scientific experiment as opposed to the typical raising of a child. his speech can be compared to that of a 13 yr old, though maybe a little more precise. I catch him saying things like 'shall we let huck in?' and 'please may I have some juice?' however, there are times that absolutely shock me when he says something like 'WHAT-EVERRRR' (make sure you separate the beginning from the end of that word with enunciation on the ever) (that one almost gave me a heart attack the other day, what is he? 12?) he likes to help make dinner, last night chef zsolti prepared a tuna salad with yeast rolls. he helped chop the onion, put in the cheese and tuna and cook the noodles. he has been trying to push back bedtime by asking for one more book, or trying to stay in the tub longer. he has been sleeping in his own bed finally after mommy and daddy realized that those last few hours of the night are really important to avoid sleep deprivation and that he is just getting too big for our bed. after a brief bout of dependence and baby-like behavior, and the unwillingness of mommy to give in, he's been doing alot more for himself. it was more like a two week period where he tried to refuse to do anything for himself, including walking. but of course, we know better and when he had previously been putting on his shoes himself, then telling us he didn't know how... we won that battle. he's now wanting to do everything himself, from brushing his teeth to getting dressed. potty training is off and on. he does really good at daycare and only....ok... well he only goes on the potty at home once a day. we're going to create a schedule of important times for him to use the potty starting today. he constantly questions why he can or can't do something. the terrible twos have really settled in with the fit throwing if he doesn't get his way. of course, we don't give in to him there either. time outs rarely work, but i've learned that taking away his nightly show (currently: kermit, barney or diego) is a good punishment. i'm not so certain that most 2.5 year olds act the way he acts, and if i wanted him to be a nerd when he gets older, on top of the skinny gangliness and acne, i would get his iq tested. but, we like him just fine. and that whole part about having kids so they can do the cleaning really kicked in this morning. i finally got to sit on the couch with csaba while we directed him what to clean up next! (ok, so maybe they were all his toys and all he did was throw them into the doorway of his room, but atleast it's a start!) and for those of you who know he will go far in life... he told me the other day that he wants to be a doctor so he can fix people.
